Ventricular fibrillation is a fast, erratic heart beat originating from the lower chambers (ventricles).
The heart will quiver instead of pump effectively and blood pressure will drop significantly.
This is a medical emergency and requires immediate cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and shock via a defibrillator.
Once stable, patients will need investigations for coronary artery disease, heart failure or other heart disease. For patients at high risk of developing ventricular fibrillation an Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator (ICD) implanted.
